This is my grade 8 Eportfolio. This is where my work has been and will be showcased for my student led conference. Throughout the year, I have learned many things. I have learned things in the subjects, math, l.a, science, and social studies.
The two things that I am hjgood are good eat making EXPLORE responses and also I
am good at finishing my work on time. The 2 things that I need to ihmprove on is staying on task
and also I need to study more for tests. My goals for the next 6 weeks, is to start studying more and pay
attention to what emy teachers need to say about the topic.
Adult Response
In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things I really enjoyed definition cards and one of the main reasons is that I observed the time and effort you put into it. In life you get back what you put in and I think that what you have shown me in your work to date will get you started on a great and happy future in learning. In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by: I will ensure that you meet your goal of finishing assignments on time and completely to the best of your ability. And I will support you in your achievments.
My Subjects
Math
Term 1 Reflection
I am pretty proud of the mark that I got. I also think this was a good term because I learned many things such as proportional reasoning, ratios, but I already knew a bit about rates but then this term it expanded my knowledge of rates. I also learned about the pythagorean theory. I didn’t know anything about that kind of theory but it was so much simpler for me because I know more about triangles than I never had before! Term 3 was a pretty good term in my opinion because I did pretty well on my quizes
In my own opinion I did well on Volume. I really enjoyed it because I understood the formula’s and many other things. I find it simple. I did pretty good in my volume tests.
I struggled on Surface area and the nets. I do not know how I did the tests, it really confused me. I didn’t get it.
In next term, my plan for me to do better is that I can do more of my homework. I think I struggled with that the most because I honestly got really tired, and lazy. I am not going to slack off next term.
In percents, I learned how to calculate and find taxes on items that I never thought I could ever do! In surface area I found how formulas are really helpful and needed. I also found out that in Volume it’s really easy. It is sort of like surface area but in a way it’s not.
Integers
In integers I did all right but I didn't do as well as I thought I could have. The part I like is adding 2 negatives because it is sort of easy. Such as (-89)+(-85) This is a very confusing but easy way to do integers because I didn’t get it, but I have thought about it. It helps when I am thinking of money . I got better at using zero pairs near the end of this unit.
3: The man who planted trees relates to me because we have days to clean up our environment and also their are people who warn us about pollution in plays, and also many other ways in our community.
5: People who approach the problem about our environment, are by thinking about all of the problems in the world today. How we take care of our environment. In my own opinion it motivates people because the earth is becoming severely injured and people need to start becoming aware or there will be nothing that can survive on our planet.
6: The different characters attitudes during the play are: Jean: Jean agrees what Elzeard is doing and supports it. Charcoal Burners: They don’t care about the land nor about the trees. Elzeard: He wants to have a better life for people around him, for them to be able to live and be happy. The Government: They don’t care about the land or about the trees, just like the charcoal burners. Member of Parliament: They don’t care, they could care less about the trees and the environment. Timber Merchants: They don’t care about the environment, all they care about is their money, and how they are getting paid. Villagers: They don’t know how it got there, but they are grateful because they can live a happy life with that forest that Elzeard planted.
10: Trees affects the environment by a lot. It takes in carbon dioxide and it gives us fresh air. It can give warmth for family and also if there are bushes or food like an apple tree it gives the family around the area food. If there are food and berries animals can get to it and be healthy.

Jocelyn's Simile Definition Card
:
Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components:Subject: E.L.A. Simile definition cardTASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? The task is to create a simile and then write the definition of a Simile and your simile and create a picture of your simileINTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are a few reasons to why I did this. First, I did this so that I am able to get an understanding of what a simile is.Also, so I could express my ideas in more then just writing I could express it in an Image. Finally, it is also to get a better understanding of comparisons. CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?- I have to follow a checklist on what we are getting marked on so that I am able to get a good mark- I learned what a simile is so that I am able to do this assignment NEXT STEPS: I could now identify what a simile is.
I could follow a Checklist that is given to me I could create a simile on my own could express my ideas visually

Dear Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones,
I’m sorry for snatching your pocket book that night . I only wanted money to buy myself a pair of blue suede shoes. Your purse looked like it would have the money that I needed to buy the shoes. I shouldn’t have done what I have done. I shouldn’t have bothered you, you are an innocent person that did nothing wrong.
It was wrong of me to try and snatch your purse and I have learned my lesson. Thank you for everything you have done like feeding me, letting me wash my face, and especially for the money to buy the shoes. I also thank you for not turning me in and giving me a second chance.
The advice that you gave me to not steal but simply ask has taught me a lesson about stealing. I should have taken responsibility for myself and try to earn the money on my own, so that I could buy the shoes. I’m truly sorry for my actions and I wish you’ll forgive me.
Sincerely yours,
Roger

Jocelyn's Cuneiform
YES Is my cuneiform square? YES Did I include 2 offerings and a signature? YES Is my writing neat and easy to read? YES Does my symbol look how it is suppose to? YES Are my symbols deep enough to make an impression, but don’t break through my tablet? YES Does my writing flow from left to right
I gave myself a mark of 9 because I did every thing on the checklist ,except I didn’t do it perfectly. For instance my cuneiform was rounded at the edges, and my symbols are deep but they could have been deeper. I made sure that everything was spaced out so it wasn’t messy and it looked neat. I included 2 offerings and a signature on my cuneiform. My writing flows from left to right. I enjoyed making my clay into a square because it was round at the corners and it took me about 6-7 tries to get it into an alright looking square. I also enjoyed trying to fill in the cracks because it reminded me of making a pizza and I had a lot of fun. I found trying to create the symbols with a rounded popsicle stick was hard because it is rounded and hard to try and make the lines straight. It was also hard because there is a very little amount of space on the cuneiform.
